Michael Papageorge

Michael Papageorge is a seasoned financial advisor and the founder of Helfin Global Capital, specializing in international tax and complex investment strategies for High Net Worth Individuals. With over 10 years of combined investment experience, including managing billions of rands in investment portfolios, Michael is committed to delivering tailored financial solutions that align with his clients’ unique needs.
He graduated from Crawford College in Pretoria in 2010, where he was elected Head Boy and achieved six distinctions in his matriculation exams. Michael pursued his tertiary education at the University of Pretoria, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Sciences in 2013, followed by an Honours degree in 2014. He further developed his expertise by completing his chartered accounting articles program with Deloitte UK, where he served as an Assistant Manager.
In 2018, Michael qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) and returned to South Africa to join Helfin Financial Services, a wealth management firm founded by his father, Mike Papageorge. As Chief Investment Officer, he has been instrumental in developing and implementing strategic investment plans, conducting market research, and constructing diversified portfolios that align with clients’ financial goals. His investment philosophy emphasizes long-term market participation, focusing on disciplined strategies to preserve and grow client wealth.
Michael’s commitment to continuous learning is evident in his academic achievements. He obtained a Master’s in Taxation from the University of Pretoria and graduated with honours in Financial Planning from the University of the Free State in 2020, where he was recognized as the top student in his class. He also qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner (CFP) and earned his Master’s in Philosophy of International Taxation in 2021, receiving the Golden Key award and recognition as a top scholar. His thesis critically analysed the effectiveness of the new double tax treaty between South Africa and Mauritius in addressing treaty abuse related to dual resident entities.
In addition to his investment and tax expertise, Michael has served on the secretariat of the High Net Worth Individuals and International Tax Committees for the South African Institute of Taxation, contributing to the development of tax policies and strategies. He is also a CFA Level 1 candidate and actively involved in various boards, including serving as a financial director for a property company and a board member of a medical centre.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Michael enjoys spending his spare time as a Kruger Park game ranger, where he combines his passion for wildlife conservation with his love for the outdoors. Through Helfin Global Capital, he continues to provide exceptional results in managing the companies unit trusts as Chief Investment Officer.

Donovan Waring

Donovan is a seasoned analyst and portfolio manager at Helfin Global Capital, bringing a robust blend of academic excellence and practical experience to the firm. With a comprehensive background in investment management and economics, he is dedicated to equity analysis, tactical asset allocation, and portfolio management. He holds a BCom in Investment Management from the University of Pretoria, a BCom Honours in Economics from the University of Johannesburg where he was awarded the Golden Key for exceptional academic performance. He recently completed a Master of Management in Finance and Investment at the University of Witwatersrand Business School, where his thesis, “A Hedge Extension of the CAPM Model: An Empirical Investigation,” sets out to develop an advanced portfolio construction model.
At Helfin Private Wealth, Donovan played a crucial role in managing both local model portfolios and offshore share portfolios. He has developed and implemented a portfolio management tool to assess portfolio risk and asset allocation. Through his oversight of tactical asset allocation, he ensures that portfolios align with the prevailing macroeconomic environment and adhere to mandate parameters. Donovan is recognized for his analytical acumen and ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively. He has been involved in extensive market research, intrinsic valuation, and technical analysis, ensuring informed investment decisions and optimal portfolio performance. Donovan leverages his extensive expertise and commitment to drive success for Helfin Global Capital, making him an invaluable asset to the firm. His passion extends to reading business literature, following market trends, conducting macroeconomic analysis, and playing golf.

Vassili Panoussis
Portfolio Manager / Analyst

Vassili Panoussis is a Portfolio Manager and Analyst at Hefin Global Capital. Vassili joined the Helfin group 2 years ago as an investment analyst, where he conducted research for both their local and offshore portfolios. Submitting analyses as well as proposals for the management of their local funds’ asset allocation and offshore funds’ share positions.
Vassili matriculated from Woodhill College in 2017, where he was preliminarily accepted to study Investment Management at the University of Pretoria. In 2020, he completed his bachelor’s degree in Investment Management and was one of 20 students selected for the Investment Management Honours Programme, which he completed in 2021 at the University of Pretoria. During his Tertiary studies Vassili received the Golden Key award and recognition as a top scholar. Additionally, he joined Pretoria’s NAHYSOSA (National Association of Hellenic Youth Student Organisations South Africa) committee where he was Vice president in 2019 and president in 2020.
During his time at Helfin, Vassili has completed all 3 levels of the CFA charter and is awaiting to complete the required work experience to receive the designation. His passion for portfolio management runs deep, with his goal of being a PM having started well into his early teens. In 2024 Vasili was appointed as a Portfolio manager at Helfin Global Capital, where he is tasked to oversee all of the asset manager’s unit trusts which are comprised of 4 local and 1 offshore listed fund. Outside of the workspace, Vassili is an avid Golfer and has a passion for learning languages, being fluent in Greek and is currently learning French.

Renate Potgieter
Senior Investment Consultant
Renate holds a BSc (Hons) and has been in the investment industry since 2005, with roles spanning across the investment chain. She was responsible for trading implementation for the Alternatives Investment Team at Investec Securities. Renate then worked at Momentum Asset Management in a sales and client relationship role. In 2012 Renate joined STANLIB Multi-Manager in a business development role and moved to the Investment Team as a portfolio manager in 2016, covering model portfolios, global funds as well as alternative assets. Renate joined Analytics Consulting in September 2020 as a senior investment consultant, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Douglas Glennie
Investment Analyst
Douglas began working at Sygnia Asset Management as a Performance and Reporting Analyst in 2018, where his roles and responsibilities included but were not limited to; client reporting, pricing analysis, and performance analysis. Douglas completed a Bachelor of Business Science, specialising in Finance and is a CFA Charterholder. He joined Analytics Consulting in April 2022 as an investment analyst.
